Terry McClare, an expert horsewoman and prominent, respected figure in the Maine horse world, has been running Footloose Farm in Brownfield for many years. But lately, that farm name captures an extra meaning. McClare has put her property on the market and is looking to move out West. It’s all Idea Stage stuff, McClare told me, nothing more concrete than that. The Rocky Mountain area is not new territory for her; she worked there starting colts with Buck Brannaman for some time. She may he ad to Simla, Colorado, home of horsewoman Mindy Bower. Bower and her husband have horses, cows, and sheep. McClare would help start colts and do other ranch work, too. Bower is Brannaman’s sister-in-law. In the meantime, she’s still busy here. She’ll do a clinic at the Maine Equine Super Showdeo next month (click here) and will mount up for the Trek Across Maine, a 180-mile charity ride for the Maine Lung Association. It’s something she’s done for many years. This year is her fourth consecutive trek. Way to go, Terry! For those interested in donating, click here.
