From Maddy Butcher:

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Leslie Dorrance’s passing. She died of ovarian cancer on July 22, 2021. She was 64.

Leslie was married for nearly 40 years to Steve Dorrance. Steve is the son of Bill Dorrance.

I met Leslie and Steve a few times and visited with them for an extensive interview in Ogden, Utah, some years ago. Leslie was friendly, quiet, and full of grace. Over the years, we chatted by phone and again, I was taken by how kind and considerate she was to me, a relative stranger.

Not surprisingly, she was extremely thoughtful about horses and the Dorrance legacy, too.

You can read our interview with Steve and Leslie here and here.

We send best wishes and our heart-felt condolences to the Dorrance family and their big circle of friends.

  1. Leslie Dorrance was a fine woman, an authentic cow girl, who had a heart of gold. Not only was she an exceptional braider, she was an aspiring horse woman and was studying along side the rest of us. The last time I was gifted in her presence was at the Art of Cowgirl event in Arizona in 2019, sitting with her at one of the clinics. Leslie never snubbed me and always took the time to catch up. She was the real deal and had a true heart. Her passing is a huge loss to the horse and cattle community. God bless her and the family as they work through the days of grief to come. Thanks, Mads, for breaking this news to me gently.
